Powder coating starts with preparing the metal surface to remove any dirt, grease, rust or old paint. This is often done with a chemical pre-treatment or an abrasive such as sandblasting. The then clean part is sprayed using a specialized spray gun, we apply a dry powder which is positively charged to the grounded (negatively charged) metal part. Opposites attract, so the powder wraps around and clings to the metal like a magnet before it is transferred to a curing oven where the powder particles melt to form a protective and highly durable finish.
